STALKING AND MURDERING OF A CHILDHOOD GIRAFFE

The Stalking and Murdering of a Childhood Giraffe was an art project I started in 2004 involving 58 of my friends (or “giraffe hunters”) in a search for a giraffe toy I had as a child. The goal of the project was to give in to nostalgia…and then to eventually learn to get over it. After 1,712 photos of “reject giraffes” spotted in 2006 the real giraffe was found…and in 2007 the giraffe was destroyed and I got an extremely visible invisible tattoo to commemorate the project. ROOF! (site specific portraits)

Site specific portraits taken from 2006-2008 displayed as part of the ROOF! group show on September 13, 2008. Prints were attached to a wall on top of a Greenpoint warehouse roof for a night exhibition with a pile of flashlights on strings as the only way to view them. The show included original performances by bands and dancers and viewers were encouraged to tear down and keep the pictures at the end of the show.
